Rangers will demand between £10m-13m (€12-15m) for striker Alfredo Morelos amid interest from Portuguese giants Porto – but even that may not be enough.
The Ibrox club are reportedly braced for interest from the Premeira Liga side against whom Morelos, 25, netted two goals in the 19/20 Europa League campaign.
Reports in the media appear to originate from A Bola via Sport Witness, who claimed the Dragons were considering a move to replace Moussa Marega, who has moved to Al Hilal.
These reports would then intensify a few days later when A Bola via Sport Witness claimed that the player’s representatives had met with Porto regarding a move.
From here there was a suggestion that Morelos would be open to the move, which would present the striker with regular Champions League football and the ability to win trophies.
Not only that but transfers from Porto to the biggest clubs in Europe are a tried and tested pathway into the elite and after a couple of good seasons, Morelos could reach the footballing stratosphere.
Now, TVI24 via Sports Witness are claiming that Rangers have set an asking price of between £10m and £13m for the striker.
This would be a sizeable step down from the £20m figure regularly attached to the forward and even the £16m Rangers reportedly rejected from eventual French Champions Lille last season [Daily Mail].
However, even these demands could be too much for Porto with fresh claims emerging that the club could turn their attentions elsewhere.
Once again the suggestion is that reaching a personal agreement with Morelos and the player’s camp should be no issue but the Ibrox club’s asking price could prove a stumbling block.
According to A Bola, the situation is no longer “favourable” to Sergio Conceição due to the Ibrox club’s asking price of at least £10m.
This report also claims that the Gers have turned down a £6.8m (€8m) for the striker from Serie A club Cagliari.
A Bola then state that should Morelos want the Porto move, then he will have to “pressure” Rangers for it with the Portuguese club also having Portimonense striker Beto on their radar.
Should Morelos move, the Ibrox club have been linked with one of the striker’s international teammates as a replacement with the player’s contract running down.
