Rangers boss Michael Beale is starting to give up hope of keeping goalkeeper Robby McCrorie at Ibrox this summer.

That is according to The Scottish Sun, who claim that Beale has held ‘last-ditch talks’ to try and keep McCrorie.

The conversations seemingly haven’t gone well though as it’s stated that Beale is now resigned to losing McCrorie this summer.

Beale rates McCrorie highly but the Scot won’t be first-choice stopper at Rangers next season following Jack Butland’s arrival.

McCrorie doesn’t want to waste another season sat on the bench and wants to leave in order to play regularly.

It’s stated that Rangers will seek between £500,000 and £1million for McCrorie.

The meeting between Beale and McCrorie is understood to have been amicable, with Beale understanding of McCrorie’s position.

McCrorie ultimately wants to push towards the Scotland squad ahead of Euro 2024 and thinks he needs to leave Rangers to do so.

Could Manchester United target Robby McCrorie?

It’s unclear just where McCrorie would go this summer but there should be plenty of clubs interested.

The 25-year-old has previously impressed on loan at Livingston and did well for Rangers at the end of last season.

McCrorie has talent and potential so a number of clubs have been interested in the past – including Manchester United.

That may sound bonkers but United were keen last summer according to The Scottish Sun.

The Red Devils clearly rate McCrorie and are in the market for goalkeepers with David De Gea gone and Dean Henderson probably going.

United want Andre Onana as their first-choice but have been looking at cheap backup goalkeepers too, including Japanese ace Zion Suzuki.

Maybe United will be tempted to go for McCrorie again, but they can’t offer him what he wants – regular first-team football.

We can imagine that English Championship clubs will be flocking to McCrorie soon enough, and his expected exit may mean that Rangers need to Jon McLaughlin after all.
