Emerging Rangers star Cole McKinnon is being lined up for a Partick Thistle loan move just days after he signed a new three-year contract at Ibrox.

The 19-year-old midfielder broke through at the club last season and enjoyed a dream debut by scoring in the 3-1 win over Hearts at the end of the Premiership season.

Marking the occasion with a new tattoo, McKinnon would mark his progress at the club with a new contract but it appears Rangers also have plans for the player this season.

According to Jordan Campbell, Rangers are “expected” to let Cole McKinnon head out to Partick Thistle on loan this season.

Rangers have struck up a strong relationship with the Firhill club in recent seasons with the likes of Lewis Mayo, Juan Alegria and even Andy Firth enjoying short-term spells in north Glasgow.

The link-up looks likely to continue this season too with Championship Partick Thistle seemingly set to announce Cole McKinnon in due course.

The boyhood bluenose spoke to RangersTV this week after striking the deal with the Ibrox side and expressed his delight at committing his future to the club.

“I was absolutely delighted,” said McKinnon.

“I have signed a few contracts with Rangers and there is no better feeling that signing for the club you love.

“Every year I have been here I have got better and better. I would like that to carry on.

“It is the best coaching staff and best facilities in Scotland so I am absolutely delighted to be staying here for another three years.”

Meanwhile, Rangers face a contract dilemma as a key Ibrox star is cited as a potential replacement for an exit-bound £55m Premier League star.
