Rangers are “not” looking to sign Royal Antwerp defender and Ecuador centre-back William Pacho despite reports suggesting otherwise.

The Gers were said to be tailing the 21-year-old defender alongside the likes of AS Monaco after an impressive year with the Belgian Pro League side.

But having signed a deal until 2026 only one year ago any move did seem both costly and unlikely given the depth of admittedly crocked defensive talent the Gers have at the club.

Connor Goldson, Ben Davies, John Souttar, Filip Helander and Leon King make up substantial options in the Rangers squad when fully fit and there has been a suggestion any resources will be spread elsewhere.

This is a feeling echoed by Rangers media partners Heart & Hand, who claim that the club are “not interested” in William Pancho despite those suggestions in Belgium.

The news comes after William Pacho played the full 90 minutes in Royal Antwerp’s 2-0 win over KAA Gent, with Michael-Ange Balikwisha and Vincent Janssen scoring the goals.

William Pacho not currently interesting Rangers

Rangers manager Michael Beale has also confirmed that the club are looking to make moves following the Gers’ 2-0 victory over Dundee United.

However, the Ibrox manager insists it’s about getting the right players in who can contribute in the years ahead.

“I have to be excited about working with someone and the journey they are going on,” said Beale [Rangers].

“I have to feel that they are someone who can come to Ibrox in front of 52,000 and really will grow and not shrink

“That is the biggest question I have when I sit in front of a player – are they going to shrink at Ibrox or grow. We need growers and people who are going to come in in the next two or three years and help us win trophies and do well in Europe.

“That is the most important thing now. If I was to rush it and get it wrong, you’ll all condemn me. I hope you will be excited as I am about the two or three additions we are hoping to do.”

William Pacho doesn’t seem to be in the Rangers running but let’s see how reported talks with one Norwich City midfielder progress.
