As the transfer window closes Rangers have managed to retain their top assets but the situation surrounding the short-term contracts of two key Ibrox first-teamers remains up in the air.
Rangers vice-captain Connor Goldson and influential midfielder Glen Kamara are two names who’ve been heavily discussed throughout the transfer window.
Goldson, 28, is now in the final year of his deal and if the club fails to negotiate a new one with the Ibrox mainstay by January, he will be free to discuss terms elsewhere.
The defender himself has consistently suggested he wants to remain at Ibrox but to date, no pen has been put to paper.
Earlier in the summer, Goldson claimed that the situation was in the hands of his agent but with no deal signed as of yet, this could become the distraction Goldson hoped it wouldn’t in the coming months.
Rangers fans are notoriously hostile in these situations and there have already been murmurs in some quarters regarding Goldson either signing up or moving on.
That won’t happen in the summer but expect these frustrations to intensify if the player has not signed on before the winter window.
As for Glen Kamara, Rangers have a little more time surrounding the Finnish international but if Steven Gerrard doesn’t get his wish the Gers may be forced to sell next summer.
Signed in the January of 2019, Kamara’s current deal expires in little under two years but there have been numerous clubs linked with the player.
Rangers have survived another transfer window without selling the ex-Arsenal kid but should Kamara fail to tie himself down on improved terms, this may change next season.
All the sounds regarding this are good however, with Kamara expected to sign that “strong” offer which Steven Gerrard confirmed was on the table.
