Rangers move for Martin Olsson 'dead in the water' despite talks – report

The Daily Record reports that Rangers are unlikely to bring Martin Olsson to Ibrox this summer.
Earlier this month, the Scottish Sun claimed the club were in talks with the left-back.

The Record agrees that the two parties held initial discussions. However, they say any deal now looks ‘dead in the water.’
That’s after the Gers asked the Swede to prove his fitness during pre-season in Glasgow, before offering a contract.
It’s suggested that won’t be the case elsewhere, with the likes of Nottingham Forest tabling offers. He’s available on a free transfer after his Swansea City contract recently expired.

The question marks over Olsson’s fitness derive from a serious injury sustained last season. He was stretchered off during Swans’ fixture with Brentford in early December and played no further part in the Championship campaign.

There’s no doubt about the 31-year-old’s pedigree, though. He boasts 48 senior international caps for Sweden and nearly 200 Premier League appearances.
However, if Stevie G wants to strengthen at left-back, it seems he’ll have to look elsewhere.
Borna Barisic is currently the only natural option in that department, although the likes of Jon Flanagan and Andy Halliday are capable of filling in as cover.
Barisic was disappointing last season but showed real quality during recent international displays for Croatia. Perhaps if Gerrard can recruit some competition, it will help him bring his club form up a level.
