On-loan Rangers goalkeeper, Robby McCrorie, has suggested that he wants to extend his loan deal with Livingston in order to complete the Premiership season, as quoted by the Daily Record.

Scottish football is in the midst of an indefinite shutdown in an attempt to slow the spread of coronavirus, a scenario which has led to uncertainty for many players.

Some will be out of contract in late May, for example, but the season may be required to run beyond then if the current fixture suspension continues on for some time.

Fortunately for McCrorie, he has a long-term contract at Rangers, running until 2022.

He is currently on loan at Livingston, though, on a deal that would have ended after the final day of the originally scheduled season.

He’s made it clear he wants to stay put until the campaign is finished, even if that means remaining in West Lothian well into the summer.

“I came here in January to get Premiership football under my belt and I have managed that,” said McCrorie, as quoted by the Daily Record. “There are eight games left, Livingston are on course for a top-six finish which would be excellent, and I want to stay to finish the job.”

“I’d be gutted if I never got to do that. I reckon if the season was extended my loan deal would be too so that was covered.

“I’d have no problem with that as I don’t think I’d be playing first-team with Rangers at that point. And with Rangers being in the same division then whenever the league resumes both clubs will be back in action for the same length of time. That makes it easier.”

Verdict

Clearly, there are more serious things to worry about than football right now, a point that McCrorie acknowledges elsewhere in his interview.

However, by the same token, there will be an unprecedented level of uncertainty for many players during this indefinite suspension for Scottish football.

The stopper has slotted in well at Livi since his January move, making eight appearances and registering two clean sheets so far.

Attitude-wise, it’s encouraging to see that he wants to stay to finish what he’s started and to help repay Livi for the faith they’ve shown in him.

This Premiership loan spell remains a great launchpad for him and the more top-flight games he can rack up, the better.
