Rangers loanee Ross McCrorie is eyeing up an extension to his current loan deal at Portsmouth to take him through to the end of the current campaign [Portsmouthfc.co.uk]
The 22-year-old joined Pompey at the beginning of the 2019/20 season in search of regular game time.
He’s had his battles with both injuries and poor form but had been doing well at right-back prior to the suspension of football amid the global health crisis.
The Scotland youth international actually contracted the virus himself, but only experienced mild symptoms. He has since made a full recovery and is now keen to get back on the pitch.
“I’m not sure about when contracts might finish because of the crisis – I haven’t got a clue about that side of things,” he told Portsmouthfc.co.uk.
“But if we can get playing again, then it would be good to extend my deal to whenever the season would end. I can’t wait to be back playing again and hopefully, we’ve got nine more league games to look forward to.
“We were in a positive position in the table when the season was suspended and everyone wants to get the job done by winning promotion.”
Verdict
First and foremost, it’s great to see McCrorie healthy again after he was one of five Pompey players to return positive tests [BBC Sport].
Clearly, he feels a strong affiliation with the club despite the difficulties he’s faced across the season, and he wants to see the campaign through to the end.
It’s unlikely the Gers would have a problem extending his loan deal if a date was set for the EFL to return.
However, any league association plans are subject to government approval and it could be some time yet before that is given.
