Rangers have been linked with a move for Birmingham City loanee and Wolves centre-back Dion Sanderson amid injury problems in defence at Ibrox.

The Scottish Sun are claiming that Ibrox sporting director Ross Wilson and top scout John Park watched the 23-year-old turn out for the Blues last week.

Having impressed at St Andrews this season, the report suggests Rangers will face stern competition for the Wolves player’s signature should the club launch a bid.

Dion Sanderson is no stranger to a loan deal having spent time on loan at Cardiff City, Sunderland, Birmingham City and Queens Park Rangers in his career but this time around the defender is being linked with a permanent move.

According to the likes of Football Scotland, should Rangers hope to make a deal permanent they will have to fork out around £3m with Dion Sanderson contracted to Molineux until 2025.

Rangers are being linked with a move for the defender amid a series of high profile injury problems in defence at Ibrox.

The Gers are only just getting Connor Goldson and Ben Davies back to fitness, whilst perennially injured pair John Souttar and Filip Helander have been out for the entire season.

Those injury issues at centre-back have cost the club dearly this season and continue to be an issue for Rangers in this campaign.

The club has limped to the World Cup break with a makeshift defence which regularly sported USA defensive midfielder James Sands and teenage talent Leon King at centre-back.

Dion Sanderson represents the kind of young, hungry signing fans would expect from Michael Beale and let’s see how the next few weeks, and maybe even the summer, progresses in this regard.

The defender has made 24 appearances for Birmingham this season, scoring one goal.

Meanwhile, could a move for a homegrown ex-Ibrox star help meet a UEFA quota?
