Crysencio Summerville scored a first-half hat-trick for Leeds United U23s on Thursday, just days after being linked with a move to Rangers.
Rangers were first credited with interest in Summerville in 2020 when he was a Feyenoord player [Voetbal International].
He would eventually opt to joins Leeds from the Dutch giants, but things haven’t really worked out for him so far at Elland Road.
The 20-year-old has only made seven first-team appearances for the Whites, with most of his opportunities coming at U23 level.
It’s his lack of senior game time that reportedly prompted the Gers to recently reach out to Leeds with a request to be kept informed about his situation.
The Daily Mail reported [via the Scottish Sun] over the weekend that Rangers are keen on a loan move as Gio van Bronckhorst looks to improve his options out wide ahead of the second half of the season.
Rangers target scores hat-trick for Leeds U23s
Summerville’s lack of senior experience may be a concern for Rangers fans ahead of any prospective swoop, but it seems that the pacy winger is bang in form right now.
That’s because he bagged a 26-minute hat-trick for Leeds U23s in a PL Cup match against Sunderland U23s on Thursday.
The Netherlands youth international struck in the 9th, 21st and 35th minutes to give the hosts a 3-0 lead at the interval.
Sunderland would rally after the break and eventually pull off an unlikely comeback, with a 90th minute equaliser securing them a 3-3 draw.
But Summerville still received a 9/10 rating for his overall performance from Leeds Live after showing real ruthlessness in front of goal.
Given that the January transfer window has just opened and the interest from Rangers is allegedly there, it was certainly a well-timed performance.
However, there’s a chance that it may strengthen Marcelo Bielsa’s desire to hold onto him, in case he’s needed to play a more prominent role during the second half of the Premier League season.
