Three strikers who have been linked to Rangers in recently in Ross Stewart, Lyndon Dykes and Ellis Simms lead the line in this week’s English Championship Team of the Week.

The forward trio have been routinely mentioned regarding a move to Ibrox with Sunderland pair Stewart and Simms linked earlier in this window.

Lyndon Dykes – who is playing under former Rangers coach Michael Beale at QPR – has been linked with a move to Ibrox throughout his career.

Everton forward Ellis Simms spent last season on loan at Hearts and was linked to Rangers earlier in the window as the club looked to recruit a new striker.

With Rangers moving for Croatian striker Antonio Colak, Simms would move on loan to newly promoted Sunderland and has started life brightly in the English northeast.

The 21-year-old netted a double as Sunderland followed up an opening day 1-1 draw with Coventry by beating Bristol City 3-2.

The man who got the other goal? You’ve guessed it – that would be Rangers-linked Ross Stewart.

Rangers-linked striker trio named in English Championship Team of the Week

Scotland international and former Ross County striker Stewart was another who was linked with a move to Rangers much earlier in the transfer window

This was after Stewart’s goals helped fire Sunderland to the English Championship by scoring an impressive 26 goals during a season in the English third tier.

Finally, Lyndon Dykes was last linked to Ibrox in January this year but the Ibrox side have not been mentioned again this summer.

This is a report that seems to always crop up around transfer time and we suspect it won’t be the last time the Aussie-born Scotland international is linked to Ibrox.

Based on the ratings of Who Scored, the fact all three have made the list a testament to their ability but there is a sentiment amongst Rangers fans that the club needs greater quality to progress.

Meanwhile, a one-time reported Rangers target looks set to visit Ibrox after all as the Champions League stage is set.
