Rangers have been linked with a move for Sunderland striker Ross Stewart heading into the January window – but according to the latest the Ibrox side could face competition from Greek giants Olympiakos.

The Scotland international forward, 26, is best known amongst Rangers fans for a stint at Ross County but since moving down south Ross Stewart has been a revelation at the Black Cats.

The striker has an impressive return of 34 goals and eight assists in 72 games for Sunderland ever since joining the club in January 2021.

But with Stewart’s contract running down at the Stadium of Light and the striker’s representatives playing hardball over a new deal, the Gers are one of the names most prominently named as potential suitors.

Ross Stewart seems to fit the bill for Rangers too; the striker adds to the club’s European homegrown quota and has experience in the Scottish Premiership whilst being on a hot streak of form.

Five goals in seven at Championship level this season is a solid return and whilst there are doubts regarding Stewart’s suitability to take the club to the next level there’s something to be said about the forward’s potential reliability in Scotland.

But should Rangers be genuinely interested in moving for Ross Stewart then they will reportedly face competition from Olympiakos in Greece.

According to Alan Nixon and the Sun, Ross Stewart is a transfer target for the Greek Super League giants with Sunderland expecting transfer bids for the player come January.

It would be quite something to see Stewart go from the Staggies to becoming the striking foil for one time £71m Real Madrid man James Rodriguez, but that’s exactly what’s being suggested here.

The Colombian superstar joined Olympiakos in the summer on a free transfer and – apparently – could be linking up with Ross Stewart from next month unless Rangers, or someone else, intervene!

Speaking of Rangers transfers, the incoming Ibrox manager has admitted the club have their eye on a couple of targets.
