Thomas Robert’s agent Paul Tait has given a key update on his client’s future amid reported Rangers interest after SPFL League One was halted by the authorities [Daily Record].

The Gers are one of several clubs to be linked to Robert, with Celtic, Hearts, Dundee United and Blackpool amongst those also credited with an interest.

The 20-year-old Frenchman, who can play in midfield, on the wing or up front, joined Airdrie from Montpellier in the summer and has impressed with a series of lively performances.

He’s scored four goals and notched two assists in 14 appearances in all competitions and Tait urged either Rangers or Celtic to take a six-figure gamble on his client earlier this month [Daily Record].

Things have changed somewhat recently, though, with all leagues below the Championship brought to a halt by the authorities for at least a three-week period due to Covid-19 concerns.

Now, Tait is expecting Robert to stay put at the Penny Cars Stadium.

“It’s unfortunate the league is off until February,” he said [Daily Record]. “It would’ve been good for Thomas to get more game time during January.”

“Not much has been happening and clubs can’t get the opportunity to watch players so it’s looking like it might be the summer until the right deal comes up.”

Such a delay may prove to be beneficial for all involved.

Robert now looks set to get a full season of senior football under his belt and Airdrie will benefit from holding onto a key player, while if the Gers’ interest is genuine, they will be able to carry out more scouting over the second half of the campaign, rather than being rushed into a deal for fear of missing out to a rival.

The lower-league shutdown has also impacted several Rangers loanees, with a trio left in limbo after their adopted side opted to place all players and some staff on furlough.
