Rangers had a look into signing midfielder Hwang In-beom earlier this year but he’s now set for a big move to Crvena zvezda.

The Gers had a very busy transfer window, bringing in nine new faces under Michael Beale.

So far… well, it’s hard to say that the spending has paid off so far with Rangers looking pretty disjointed.

A big concern is that Rangers still don’t really look like dominating games from midfield despite investment there.

Nicolas Raskin and Todd Cantwell came in January whilst Jose Cifuentes finally arrived this summer after weeks of speculation.

Rangers just aren’t clicking in any sense right now and some may feel that Beale still lacks some quality in midfield.

Rangers did look at other targets in recent times and one of them was South Korean international Hwang In-beom.

Greek reporter Georgios Sideridis reported way back in February that Rangers had scouted Hwang in action for Olympiacos.

Football Insider then added in April that Rangers had registered an interest in bringing Hwang to Ibrox.

The move went quiet over the summer but Hwang is now set to secure himself a move away from Greece.

Sportal report that Crvena zvezda – maybe better known as Red Star Belgrade – are now set to sign Hwang.

The Serbian transfer window runs until September 15th, so they are still able to secure new signings.

It’s stated that Crvena zvezda will now shatter their transfer record by spending €5million on bringing Hwang to Serbia.

The deal is worth around €5million (£4.3million) with Crvena zvezda paying the fee over three instalments.

Hwang, 26, is a versatile midfielder who has operated a number of roles for Olympiacos having arrived from Rubin Kazan last year.

Hwang – who featured at the 2022 World Cup with South Korea – bagged five goals and four assists for Olympiacos but will now head to Serbia, joining league champions Crvena zvezda.

If Rangers were eyeing up Hwang for a January move, then those plans will have to be thrown out of the window.
