Speaking on the Super 6 Podcast, Rangers linked free agent, Jack Wilshere, has given an update on his search for a new club.

Wilshere announced his departure from West Ham on Twitter in October, citing continued selection snubs as the reason behind his decision.

The extremely talented England international insisted he was still hungry enough to play at a high level, though, and the Press Association subsequently claimed that he would be open to talking to Rangers about a move.

No contact had been made at that time, though, and the Mirror recently reported that he favours joining an MLS side.

Now, the player has addressed his situation and confirmed that his preference is to move overseas, although he refused to rule out staying in England.

“I wouldn’t say it would be my first choice,” said Wilshere on the Super 6 Podcast, when asked by Adebayo Akinfenwa if he’d be prepared to drop down to play in the EFL Championship. “I’m not against it but I think my first choice is probably to go abroad and try something different.”

Jack Wilshere gives update on his future amid Rangers links – Verdict

There was a lot of noise about a potential Wilshere move to Ibrox last month but the rumours have died down recently and it’s clear that the player fancies plying his trade outside of the UK.

That could be in a European league or the MLS, but the chances of him moving to the Scottish Premiership now look slim.

If he does head elsewhere, though, it’s not disastrous for the Gers, who may never have been genuinely interested in bringing him in.

The former Arsenal star’s only appearance this season, prior to his exit from West Ham, came in the EFL Cup in September and there’s no guarantee he’d be able to contribute in the short-term.

Regardless, though, Steven Gerrard has a plethora of options in the middle of the park and with Bongani Zungu working his way up to fitness, Rangers are well-stocked.
