Rangers-linked Anderlecht duo net goals v title chasers Club Brugge

Rangers-linked Anderlecht winger Francis Amuzu came off the bench to score for the Belgian side against title-chasing rivals Club Brugge over the weekend.

The Ghana-born Belgian U21 winger sparked an impressive Anderlecht comeback against 2nd place Belgian First Division side Club Brugge by coming off the bench to make the score 1-1.

Anderlecht would then take the lead when another Rangers-linked star in Dutch defender Wesley Hoedt made it 2-1.

However, Vincent Kompany’s side couldn’t hold on with Hans Vanaken equalising for the reigning Champions with just five minutes to play and the game eventually finishing 2-2.

The introduction of Francis Amuzu changed the game and may give a small inclination as to why the Gers have been so extensively linked to the player.

Rangers repeatedly linked to Anderlecht winger Francis Amuzu over the last 12 months

Mentions alongside Francis Amuzu returned earlier this month amid reports the Gers were scouting at Anderlecht’s 3-3 draw with Belgian side Charleroi.

This came after the winger was extensively linked to Rangers last January, the Gers reportedly mulling over activating Amuzu’s reported £3.6m release clause.

But the links were freshened up when reports coming out of Ghana claimed that Rangers’ interest in Francis Amuzu was legitimate ahead of the January window.

There have also been claims in Belgium that the 22-year-old winger is interested in a move to Rangers amid a lack of playing time at Anderlecht [Voetbal24].

Whatever the case, it’s being commonly accepted that right wing is an area Rangers could strengthen ahead of the window amid a subtle tactical tweak from GVB’s camp.

The Dutch coach is asking the Rangers wide men to hug the touchline whilst under Steven Gerrard, Rangers got their width from the full-backs with the “wingers” adopted as “number 10s”.

As part of that, Francis Amuzu isn’t the only wide player being linked to Rangers ahead of the window as one Serie A talent has found out in recent weeks.

However, whilst Andreas Skov Olsen is certainly the preferred choice of many fans, news coming out of Germany may just have scuppered any proposed transfer plans.
