According to French outlet, Premium Courier, Rangers are interested in signing Moussa Konate.
Konate is a Senegalese international, who currently plies his trade for Ligue 1 side Amiens.
Capable of playing up front or out wide, he netted seven times and registered two assists in the league last season. In 2017/18, he netted 13 times.
Rangers interested in move for well-travelled striker
The 26-year-old has an intriguing CV, having played club football all over Europe. He’s turned out in the Israeli Premier League for Maccabi Tel Aviv, in Russia for FC Krasnodar, in Serie A with Genoa and the Swiss Super Ligue with Kyle Lafferty’s former club, FC Sion.
His best goalscoring return came in Switzerland, where he netted 35 times in 93 league matches [Soccerbase].
He’s established at international level too. Konate boasts an impressive 31 caps for his country and took part in this summer’s African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Currently valued at £6.30m by Transfermarkt, the forward is contracted at Amiens until 2021.
These reports come after Steven Gerrard admitted researching alternative options if one of his key players, i.e Alfredo Morelos, went for big money in the final week of the transfer window [Scottish Sun].
However, most fans will be hoping that if Konate comes in, it would be to supplement El Bufalo, rather than replace him.
In reality, though, would an international in the peak years of his career want to come to Ibrox to be the third choice? It seems unlikely.
Let’s hope this news isn’t a precursor to Morelos’ exit.
