Rangers-linked Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman could be moving abroad after all following PSV’s move for Davy Propper.
Veerman, 22, was linked to Ibrox earlier in the summer with the likes of Atalanta, PSV and Ajax also mentioned alongside the player [Scottish Sun].
However, there was a suggestion that instead of taking the plunge on the continent, Veerman was likely to move up the chain in Holland and the Eredivisie.
The most likely destination was touted to be PSV Eindhoven but that move appears off the cards as PSV prepare to splash a “seven-figure fee” on Brighton midfielder Davy Propper.
Now, Veerman himself acknowledges that a move within the Netherlands now seems unlikely with the midfielder being patient with regards who makes a move for him.
“It’s just what kind of club comes along. I think it will be very difficult in the Netherlands, so there’s only one thing to do,” said Veerman [ESPN via Daily Record].
“As it looks now, I’m still at Heerenveen and I’m doing my best and nothing else is going on there.
“Ajax has a lot of good midfielders, PSV just chose someone else. I happened to be on the beach with him (Propper). Not together, but he was also on that beach in Ibiza.
“Then we heard that afternoon that news. That’s a bit of a bummer, but you can’t do anything about it. Suppose he hadn’t made it, then you don’t know whether they would have got me just as well.”
However, Rangers may well be put off by the potential £9m (€10m) price tag which has been attached to Veerman by Heerenveen with the player having three years to run on his contract.
Manager Johnny Jansen made the claim regarding Veerman’s price and claims clubs will probably be “shocked” when they hear it.
“It is true that clubs may be a bit shocked by the price that may have to be paid,” said Jansen.
“I think they once said about ten million or so. But whether that is madness or not, I don’t know either. But that can scare people.”
Rangers may well also be boosted by the news that reported transfer rivals Atalanta appear to have moved elsewhere to bolster their midfield this summer.
