Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven hope to keep their squad together during the January transfer window but that does not mean Rangers’ hopes of luring Fredrik Oppegard to Ibrox are over.
That is according to reporter Rik Elfrink, the PSV expert reacting after reports suggested that Rangers could make a mid-season move for a man who is finding opportunities hard to come by under Peter Bosz at the Phillips Stadium.
Fredrik Oppegard, alongside Josh Doig and Kai Wagner, is one of the left-backs under consideration by the Scottish Premiership giants (Daily Record).
The Norway under 21 international has not played a single minute of Eredivisie football since undergoing surgery over the summer. And Elfrink believes that – as a result – he is one of very few players PSV would consider offers for over the coming weeks.
Rangers like PSV Eindhoven’s Fredrik Oppegard

“This winter, coach Peter Bosz and technical director Earnest Stewart do not want to lose anyone. The word ‘no’ has been practiced in all languages,” Elfrink quips, speaking to Eindhoven Dagblad.
“The current squad turned out to be much more complete than expected in August. If everyone is fit, the squad will be so large that some players may still be able to leave.
“For example, there are little opportunities for defenders like Fredrik Oppegard and Shurandy Sambo, and that is why a transfer seems logical.
“But few players want to leave PSV at present.”
Rangers want a left-back
The Oslo-born Oppegard joined PSV from Norwegian outfit Valerenga in 2019. He has made just 11 first-team appearances for the Dutch giants since then, spending time out on loan at Go Ahead Eagles last season.
An aggressive, all-action left-back who loves to carry the ball into the final third from deep with those trademark marauding runs of his, Oppegard’s arrival would free up Ridvan Yilmaz to return to Turkey. Borna Barisic is also due to become a free-agent when his Rangers contract expires in July.
