Rangers fans want "£40m" St Johnstone star after Galatasaray defeat

St Johnstone might have crashed out of the Europa League qualifiers to Galatasaray, but it isn’t just the Perthshire club’s gritty determination that has caught the eye of Rangers fans.

The Saints lost 4-2 on the night in front of a sold-out McDiarmid Park to lose 5-3 on aggregate to the Turkish giants.

It was a match filled with intrigue as St Johnstone went in 1-1 at halftime on the night with everything still to play for.

But it was not to be as Gala raced into a 4-1 lead in Perth before ex-Rangers winger Michael O’Halloran managed to pull a late goal back for Callum Davidson’s side.

For Rangers fans impressed by a spirited St Johnstone performance, it was the starring role of one of their most sought after talents that most caught the eye of those at Ibrox.

Northern Irish international midfielder Ali McCann, 21, is probably St Johnstone’s strongest asset and once again this talented youngster showed he can cut it at this level.

Midfield is an area where Rangers have lack a real dynamism of late with McCann’s bite and ability something which many Gers fans find attractive.

Supporters once again took to Twitter to sing the praises of the youngster and urge the Ibrox club to pounce before someone else does:

It’s not clear how much McCann would cost Rangers but it is clear that the player’s two clashes with Galatasaray at Europa League level have done little to dampen the expectation around the St Johnstone star.

McCann will get another shot at Europe with St Johnstone too – the Saints have dropped into the Europa League Playoff where they will face LASK of Austria.

St Johnstone will be hoping McCann can do the business for them here, with the club’s official Twitter account once lauding the midfielder as a “£40m” player.
