Rangers fans urge club to move for St Johnstone star after Galatasaray upset

Rangers fans have been applauding Scottish Premiership rivals St Johnstone for stealing an unlikely draw against Galatasaray in Turkey – but they also hope the Gers steal Ali McCann from the Saints!

The young Northern Irish midfield maestro didn’t look out of place in the Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadium as the 21-year-old help guide the Perthshire club through 90 minutes in front of an intimidating crowd to earn a 1-1 draw.

It was a mature performance beyond McCann’s young years and in doing so the midfielder – who is Steven Davis’ Ulster understudy – proved he can rub shoulders with the best.

The stunning Europa League qualification result in Turkey leaves this gargantuan mismatch wide open ahead of the return at McDiarmid Park next week.

Just by pure stature and pedigree alone, even the most ardent St Johnstone fan will admit Galatasaray are a few levels about the Saints.

Not only that, but the financial gap is humongous and it’s quite incredible that Callum Davidson’s team of overachievers have managed to get out of Turkey with a draw.

Their team deserve massive credit; talent strewn or not this is ordinarily a stage the likes of Aberdeen, Hibs, Kilmarnock and Motherwell have collapsed in recent seasons.

This time around St Johnstone are holding their own but many Rangers supporters hope that before long, a key component of their side is turning out in the Light Blue of the Gers instead:

Rangers have used the Scottish market recently to a good level of success with ex-Aberdeen star Scott Wright the latest to come into the side.

Midfielders are a bit of a luxury at Rangers right now but with one set to sign a new deal, could McCann be a cheaper alternative to £7m interest put on the “back burner”?
