Rangers fans appear to be split over whether or not the club should look to sign Florian Kamberi on a permanent deal from Hibernian.

The 25-year-old forward joined the Gers in January after an injury to Jermain Defoe prompted Steven Gerrard to launch a late search for attacking reinforcements.

He described joining Rangers as his ‘dream’ move [Rangers.co.uk] but he didn’t see much action over his first few weeks at the club.

The Swiss-born attacker was ineligible for the Scottish Cup and was only offered cameos off the bench in the league.

Prior to the suspension of football amid the global health crisis, though, he was beginning to make more of an impression.

He scored once and set up another in an impressive display whilst his teammates struggled at St Johnstone in late February and made three Europa League appearances, including a start away at Braga in the Round of 32.

Often deployed out wide rather than in a traditional no.9 role, he only scored once, but, in general, made positive contributions when introduced from the bench.

The suspension of football came at a bad time for a player who is hungry to earn a deal at Ibrox and who may, to an extent, have burned his bridges at Easter Road.

Both club insider account Four Lads Had a Dream and the Daily Record have asserted that no decision has been made about whether or not to attempt to sign the player permanently.

There’s a lot of disagreement amongst supporters, too.

Some believe he showed enough in his nine appearances to suggest he could contribute significantly next season, while others don’t believe he has the required quality to drive a title bid.
