Rangers fans have rejoiced on social media after two journalists provided positive transfer updates on Kai Kennedy on Tuesday.

There has been speculation around the Scotland U21 winger’s future at Ibrox for some time.

Kennedy’s current contract is set to expire in the summer and it was initially expected that he would allow it to run down before leaving for free [Daily Record].

However, Glasgow Live reported in November that negotiations had resumed and now a pair of updates have suggested that there has been a breakthrough.

Kennedy’s loan stint at Inverness Caledonian Thistle has come to an end, but Scott McDermott of the Sunday Mail and Jordan Campbell of the Athletic both claimed on Tuesday that a contract extension would soon be signed and that the 18-year-old would then head out elsewhere for another loan stint.

It’s expected that the starlet will be staying in the Championship but joining Raith Rovers, who are a little closer to home than Caley Thistle.

The news went down extremely well with many Gers supporters, who believe Kennedy has a big future at first-team level at Ibrox.

Here’s a selection of reactions from Twitter:

Kennedy made his senior debut for Rangers against Stranraer in the Scottish Cup in January and made ten appearances whilst at Inverness, scoring once and notching an assist.

In other news, Rangers fans have heaped praise on a former Ibrox star for his latest ‘absolutely perfect’ dig at Celtic.
