Rangers fans have reacted positively to a report which claims Matt Polster will no longer be sent out on loan by the club after impressing against Hearts.

An Evening Express report claims that the player, who was originally expected to leave Ibrox this month amid interest from fellow Premiership clubs [Daily Record], has ‘played his way back’ into Steven Gerrard’s plans.

The versatile operator, who has a solitary cap for the United States, has made just six appearances for the Gers since joining the club a year ago.

Kept out of the side by James Tavernier at right-back and the likes of Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara in midfield, Polster had made very little impact before the weekend.

However, he was one of the very few bright sparks on a disappointing Sunday afternoon in Edinburgh.

The 26-year-old replaced Jon Flanagan at half-time and offered a great deal more than the scouser down the right-flank. He looked to link up with others, make forward runs and to whip crosses into the penalty area.

He played in the mould of the injured skipper while defending capably when called upon.

For most Bears, it was a first proper indication of what the American could do in a pressure game, and plenty liked what they saw.

Consequently, when it emerged that he would no longer be moved on in this window, the news was well-received.
