Rangers fans have responded on social media after the club was linked with a January transfer swoop for Aberdeen winger Scott Wright.
Sky Sports reported on Monday afternoon that the Gers are preparing to move for Wright, who is out of contract at the end of the season after recently making it clear that he would not sign an extension [Evening Express].
It’s suggested that although a pre-contract deal is an option, Rangers would prefer to sign the player in this window.
Wright looked very lively during the opening stages of Sunday afternoon’s fixture between the two sides at Pittodrie, with the tricky 23-year-old leaving Connor Goldson for dead and nutmegging Borna Barisic during separate impressive runs.
His involvement lessened after the hosts were reduced to ten men, though, and he was replaced by Matty Kennedy just prior to the hour mark.
Wright’s pace and his ability to play on the right flank may be attractive to Steven Gerrard.
However, he’s struggled with injuries during the early stages of his career and his tallies of seven goals and eleven assists from 75 Aberdeen appearances suggest that his end product needs some work.
There’s been a mixed response from supporters to the report with some excited and others underwhelmed.
Here’s a selection of reactions from Twitter:
Good player whenever I’ve seen him!

Thought he was excellent against us.

Would be a good signing

Surprised at that this. Rangers recruitment was driven towards European progress. Wright won’t play in the current squad. Another Barker, Jones but it does weaken a ‘rival’

Will be 24 by the start of next season, only played 75 games for Aberdeen, had his injuries to deal with including a cruciate injury last season.

This would be very nice, he was a threat last night. Also think Hedges is a very nice player as well

Wright isn’t the only player Rangers are currently said to be interested in, but they look set to miss out on a highly-rated 21-year-old to an English club.
