Rangers fans have seen enough of Hearts defender John Souttar to encourage the Ibrox club to take the plunge on the form Tynecastle centre-back – and break Jambo hearts.

Rangers are one of a number of clubs being linked to John Souttar, 25, as the player’s contract runs down in Edinburgh.

Viewed as a cost-effective option that will also boost Rangers’ homegrown quota in European competition, fans are intrigued by the potential of signing the defender.

Nottingham Forest have also been mentioned alongside the defender.

There were also reports that Hearts could cash in on John Souttar this January with the Daily Mail [17/11/21, p.78] even suggesting the centre-back would be available for a cut-price £500k fee.

Hearts have made no bones about their determination to retain the centre-back’s services and tie him down on a new deal but as his contract runs down the signs are ominous for the Tynecastle club.

With Ibrox defender Connor Goldson also running down his contract at Rangers, John Souttar could represent a real solution for the Gers.

After Rangers’ visit to Tynecastle to play Hearts, some Gers fans have taken to social media to express their belief that John Souttar would be a solid signing:

How did John Souttar show up in Rangers’ clash with Hearts?

As Rangers ran out 2-0 winners against Hearts, it was a result that would’ve hurt John Souttar and his teammates amid a solid performance in Gorgie.

Rangers had the quality to see the Jambos off and two moments killed the game as Hearts huffed and puffed but struggled to find the back of the Ibrox side’s net.

John Souttar was clearly being watched by Gers supporters during the match and his performance was not without ups and downs.

Neither John Souttar or Hearts teammate Craig Halkett covered themselves in glory for Joe Aribo’s goal, the Rangers attacking midfielder peeling off the shoulder to score after a wonderful touch.

Some fans will also point to Souttar’s injury history – which includes two long-term Achilles issues – and his lack of European experience as reasons not to move for the defender.

But John Souttar has shown his class at international level with Scotland recently and at 25, is a good age to come in and develop at Ibrox.

Hearts defender John Souttar isn’t the only player being linked to Rangers ahead of the January transfer window with one talented Belgian winger reportedly interested in a move to Ibrox.
