Rangers have previously failed in an approach for Leeds United-linked ex-Norwich City director of football Stuart Webber.
That’s according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who told Give Me Sport that Stuart Webber rejected a move to Rangers because he “didn’t want to go”.
Whilst the comments don’t specify a timeline on the apparent Rangers approach, reports had suggested the Ibrox side might’ve looked at Webber to finally replace Ross Wilson in the role.
Wilson left Rangers for Nottingham Forest in April this year whilst Leeds United have also been linked to Stuart Webber after he left Norwich City.
“A more obvious fit would have been Rangers, who have actually tried for Webber before, but he didn’t want to go,” said Jacobs.
“A lot of people in the industry feel like Webber would be the perfect fit for Rangers, but sources close to Rangers are firmly downplaying that there has been any approach or that there have been any talks.
“At the moment, there’s nothing in the Leeds links. If Leeds do want to reunite Daniel Farke with Webber, they might have to be very patient because it sounds like Webber is looking to bide his time and take a bit of personal time out of the game before determining what his next move is.”
Stuart Webber ‘turned down Rangers approach’
The comments come after some conflicting reporting on potential Rangers interest in Stuart Webber in the English and Scottish press this week.
A report in the Sun suggested Webber was a potential target in Rangers’ high-profile director of football hunt whilst Football Scotland almost immediately moved to rubbish the claims.
Rangers have been linked with a whole host of potential targets to replace Ross Wilson at Ibrox with James Bisgrove claiming a director of football appointment was “imminent” following the appointment of Philippe Clement as manager.

Brighton recruitment guru Sam Jewell was strongly linked last month before reports were eventually shot down by the ambitious Premier League side.
Ex-Liverpool academy manager Alex Inglethorpe was also mentioned in dispatches by Alan Nixon via his official Patreon account earlier in November.
