Rangers have been scouring the globe for talent with Nils Koppen leading the recruitment department from his new technical director role.

Philippe Clement knows the size of the task that he inherited as manager with a squad rebuild seeing older players moved on and dynamic, energetic youngsters brought in to replace them.

Koppen has spoken about being creative in the market, however, a country where Rangers have shopped before could see them land a gem in the latest prospect to be linked in Marko Soldo

Rangers target Marko Soldo and Connor Gallagher comparison

Currently at NK Osijek, where Borna Barisic and Eros Grezda played before moving to Ibrox, the 21-year old midfielder has been in impressive form.

With four goals and four assists, Soldo is showing that he is more than just a 6ft 2inch tall destroyer.

In terms of profile, the Croatia Under-21 international is a carbon copy of Atletico Madrid’s Connor Gallagher.

Not a bad template for a role in Rangers midfield. Players capable of winning the ball, but then doing something with it when they get it are worth their weight in gold.

Also, it makes the transition from domestic football to European easier for those who can switch between the two styles of play.

For Osijek, Soldo has been seen in a more advanced role too which shows his versatility, however, for his country, he plays as a deeper No.6.

Who’s place could be at risk if Rangers sign Soldo?

Nicolas Raskin has nailed down the No.6 role with his most impressive run of form since signing for Rangers and Connor Barron is a more than capable deputy.

As seen at Dingwall against Ross County, Barron has also been asked to play in a double pivot to allow the full backs to push higher up.

Mohamed Diomande was excellent in the No.8 role against Kilmarnock and Soldo could easily cover any of these three positions.

Osijek might only have signed Soldo in the summer, however, he is tipped to be promoted to Croatia’s senior team, if he does, Rangers chances of signing the powerhouse midfielder will only get harder.
