Rangers are eyeing a late swoop for Everton midfielder, Muhamed Besic, according to Sportske.ba.

Besic, 28, is an experienced Bosnia and Herzegovina international who joined the Toffees in 2014 from Ferencvaros.

He has made 56 appearances for the club in all competitions but spent the last two seasons out on loan at Middlesbrough and Sheffield United respectively, having fallen down the pecking order at Goodison Park.

With the likes of Allan and Andre Gomes now occupying the midfield spots, Sportske.ba reports that Besic has been told he isn’t in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans for the current campaign.

The report goes on to claim that Rangers could swoop in and take the player on loan for a small fee, giving him a chance to revive his career.

Besic is contracted to Everton until next summer but hasn’t made the matchday squad for any of their six fixtures so far this season.

Rangers consider late swoop for Everton midfielder Muhamed Besic – Verdict

Steven Gerrard has made it clear that he wants to strengthen in midfield [Glasgow Times] but as yet, no signing has been made.

This is the first time Besic has been linked with Rangers, but it’s certainly plausible that he could find a new club before the window closes, due to his current situation.

The 45-cap international is clearly surplus to requirements at Everton and after the Gers’ qualification for the Europa League, they should certainly be able to afford to bring the player in on loan.

Primarily a defensive midfielder, Besic only has 11 goals from 269 career appearances, so he isn’t quite the box-to-box type many supporters have been looking for.

He’s been relatively short of game time over the past year, too, turning out just 13 times during his loan stint at Sheffield United before the global health crisis brought football to a halt. As a result, he may take some time to get up to full match fitness.

However, the tough-tackling 28-year-old has plenty of Premier League experience and he would certainly bring some bite to the Rangers midfield.
