A journalist has branded rumours that Rangers defender Jack Simpson is set to move to QPR “untrue” and claims the Gers are only interested in a permanent exit for the centre-back.
The ex-Bournemouth defender, 25, joined Rangers last January but has failed to make a lasting impression on the side and has been linked to a series of Championship moves.
Despite playing minutes in the Premier League with the Cherries, it hasn’t quite worked out at Rangers and Calvin Bassey’s emergence at centre-back appeared to signal curtains for the Englishman.
QPR not in for Rangers fringe man Jack Simpson
Athletic journalist Jordan Campbell has claimed that Rangers star Simpson is not a target for former Ibrox boss Mark Warburton as he mounts a serious assault on Premier League promotion.
The Rs continue to go from strength-to-strength this season and whilst sitting in 4th place in the English Championship, they’re only two points off 2nd.
Jordan Campbell also commented on speculation linking the defender with a move to Middlesbrough, explaining that both Boro and Swansea had enquired about a loan deal.
But with Jack Simpson contracted to Rangers for another three-and-a-half years, the Ibrox side are said to only be considering a permanent transfer.
“Understand that reports Jack Simpson is heading to QPR are untrue,” tweeted Campbell.
“Swansea and Middlesbrough among the teams to have enquired about a loan deal but it’s believed Rangers will only consider a permanent transfer.”

Jack Simpson heads a list of Rangers fringe players being linked with the Ibrox exit door ahead of the window closing with Brandon Barker another who may yet leave the club.
One player – who finds himself in and out of the side amidst polarising reviews from Gers fans – has also struggled to impress under Gio with many believing an exit could be imminent.
