Dutch giants Ajax continue a summer of unprecedented spending as the signing of Rangers defender Calvin Bassey is followed up with a double move.
Ajax have also announced the signings of Francisco Conceicao from FC Porto on a £4.2m deal whilst they’ve also moved for RB Leipzig forward Brian Brobbey on a £16.5m deal.
This comes just a day after the Eredivisie side had announced a £19.5m deal for Rangers star Calvin Bassey which could eventually rise to £22.5m with add-ons.
Ajax ramp up summer spending after Rangers Calvin Bassey deal
These three deals are only the tip of Ajax’s summer spending too, the club taking this window to invest heavily in a playing squad that has been extensively raided in recent seasons.
Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn has also been signed on a club record £26m deal whilst defender Owen Wijndal joins on an £8.5m deal.
That means the club’s summer spending in total is just a touch off a quite remarkable £78m as Ajax invest heavily in their side.
But it’s not like the club hasn’t been bankrolled in recent seasons with the £65m transfer of Frenkie de Jong to Barcelona and the £68m paid by Juventus for Matthijs de Ligt standing out.

Even this season Ajax have sold Lisandro Martinez to Man United (£57m), Seb Haller to Dortmund (£29m) and Ryan Gravenberch to Bayern Munich (£21m), meaning they’re actually £29m in the green from this summer alone.
It’s a model Rangers can aspire to replicate being a big fish in a small pond themselves and following the sale of Calvin Bassey the signs suggest the Gers are doing so but on a smaller scale.
After the signing of Liverpool defender Ben Davies, Rangers look set to splash the cash on a replacement for the Ajax-bound Nigerian international.
