‘Rangers, Crystal Palace and Benfica’ battling to secure Scottish talent

Rangers are reportedly battling Premier League Crystal Palace and Portuguese giants Benfica in the hunt for St Mirren teenager Dylan Reid.

The Gers’ youth set-up has been busy this summer and the club have now reportedly locked eyes on the 17-year-old Scotland youth international midfielder as they continue to bolster their side.

That’s according to the Daily Record, who mention Rangers alongside Crystal Palace and Benfica as leading the hunt to sign Dylan Reid.

They claim that Rangers Academy boss Craig Mullholland watched Dylan Reid and fellow youngster Murray Campbell in the Saints’ pre-season defeat to Northampton this week.

After seeing the kid in action, Rangers are now said to be readying an offer with the report claiming St Mirren will expect a decent outlay with add-ons and sell-on clauses inserted.

Dylan Reid signed a two-year deal with the Buddies last season, trying him to the club until 2023 and it means the Paisley Saints are in a good position with the youngster.

Interestingly, the kid has already broken records at Ibrox after coming on for St Mirren in a defeat against Rangers last season.

In coming off the bench in a 3-0 defeat against the Light Blues, Dylan Reid became St Mirren’s youngest ever debutant by coming off the bench.

It speaks volumes for the talent the youngster has, with Reid also playing 90 minutes in that famous Covid-ravaged St Mirren draw with Celtic last season.

Rangers have certainly been busy in the youth transfer market this summer and have moved to sign up a series of top young talents.

The likes of Lancelot Pollard (Aberdeen), Kieron Willox (ICT), Cameron Cooper (Partick) and Bailey Rice (Motherwell) have joined the Ibrox U18s amongst several other players.

Rangers have also been busy south of the border with regards the B Team, signing Zak Lovelace (Millwall), Cameron Bell (Everton) and Archie Stevens (AFC Wimbledon).

As for the top team, Rangers are said to be closing in on a new player as an international target reportedly prepares to undergo an Ibrox medical.
