Rangers could throw in towel in pursuit of Oldham defender – report

The Scottish Sun reported earlier in the week that Rangers were readying a third bid for George Edmundson.
After continued rejection, though, a report in the Daily Express, suggests the Gers could be on the verge of giving up altogether.

It’s also claimed that offers from Wigan Atheltic and Hull City have also been turned down as recently as yesterday.
There is a suggestion that if the Latics refuse to budge, Gerrard could go down a different route.
Presuming no other club provides an acceptable offer, the Gers could leave the deal for now and attempt to sign Edmundson on a pre-contract in January.

That would, of course, cut down on the financial risk of the transfer.
With the Gers badly in need of reinforcements at centre-back ahead of the new season, though, the preference is surely to get a deal over the line in this window.

Edmundson turned out 54 times for the Latics last season in EFL League Two.
So impressive were his performances that not only was he
named Oldham’s Player of the Year, he was named in the division’s Team of the Year.
The 23-year-old defender has handed in a transfer request [Sky Sports], but his club seems determined to hold out for a big fee.
