Rangers could yet rue a reportedly failed pursuit of Hibs striker Kevin Nisbet as the forward’s hot streak at Easter Road seemingly attracts Old Firm rivals Celtic.

The Scotland international striker, 25, scored another two goals at the weekend in a 2-2 draw with Dundee United to add to his hattrick in the 3-2 win against Motherwell the week previously.

The brace means that Kevin Nisbet has now netted seven goals in six games since returning from a cruciate ligament injury after the World Cup break.

That fine form has now reportedly attracted the attentions of Old Firm rivals Celtic, with the Scottish Sun claiming the red-hot forward is back on the Parkhead side’s radar.

Hibs star Kevin Nisbet linked to Celtic

The Celtic links to Kevin Nisbet come with the Parkhead side seemingly needing to replace Greek striker Giorgios Giakoumakis.

Celtic are preparing to sell the forward amid strong interest from Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds and Kevin Nisbet – who is out of contract in 18 months – is viewed as a potential replacement.

The reports also come after links to Korean striker Cho Gue-sung – also reportedly a target for Rangers – stalled with the player expected to remain in the K-League with Jeonbuk until the summer.

Where Rangers come in is regarding previous interest in Kevin Nisbet, with the Ibrox club linked to the striker throughout various points in his career.

Could Rangers rue failing to move for Nisbet?

The Ibrox side were first linked to Kevin Nisbet during his time at Dunfermline Athletic in 2019, with reports suggesting Rangers were watching his progress in the Scottish lower leagues.

After moving to Hibs instead, the striker was also extensively linked to Rangers under Steven Gerrard with one journalist claiming a move was close last summer.

Hugh MacDonald has previously claimed that Gerrard was a big fan of Kevin Nisbet but “for whatever reason, he couldn’t that over the line.”

It all suggests that should Celtic make their Kevin Nisbet interest legitimate – bearing in mind the forward has been a potent option in the Premiership – then it’s something which Rangers could yet rue in the seasons ahead.

Meanwhile, Spurs reportedly remain in the hunt for one Ibrox-linked star despite agent claims to the contrary.
