Rangers have already added extra firepower this transfer window with the addition of Fabio Silva and Philippe Clement is also said to be keen on bringing Kevin van Veen back to Scotland.

The 32-year old Groningen forward has been speaking about his future and it would appear that the Gers boss wouldn’t mind adding him to his squad.

Silva made his debut at Ibrox this week and you would think that his profile is exactly what Rangers should be looking for rather than a veteran, however, Kevin van Veen, via The Herald, is adamant that interest is still there.

Rangers still interested in Kevin van Veen transfer

After scoring 29 goals for Motherwell last season, despite his age, you would have thought that the summer would have been the best time to sign the towering Dutch striker.

At 6ft 4inches tall, Van Veen offers an entirely different threat to any of the forwards we currently have and has also claimed that he could well have chosen Rangers:

“Even though I rejected them in the summer, there is still interest.

“But there are more clubs that find a striker who scored 29 goals last season interesting. I can contact clubs in the entire Scottish League directly, but they all want to loan me while FC Groningen prefers to sell.

“It is difficult for many Scottish clubs to come close to what FC Groningen paid for me in terms of a transfer fee and that is a problem.”

Not many Scottish clubs can afford to pay sizeable transfer fees which makes the chances of them forking out for a player who will soon be 33 and cost his club £500,000 a few months ago even slimmer.

Kevin van Veen is no Claudio Cannigia and, as such, Philippe Clement should only consider bringing him to Rangers if the prognosis for Kemar Roofe for the rest of the season isn’t good.

With Cyriel Dessers, Danilo and now Fabio Silva capable of playing though the middle, a striker isn’t essential in January.

The other consideration is that Van Veen wants to move so that he can play regularly.

The chances of him playing ahead of players who cost over £4m and a talented youngster with a £35m price tag are pretty slim.

He had his chance – according to him – and I doubt he will get another.
