The Lancashire Telegraph reports that Rangers are interested in signing Patrick Bauer.
The Charlton centre-back is out of contract this summer. Less than ten days ago, though, he scored one of the biggest goals in the club’s recent history.
It was his 94th-minute strike which secured victory over Sunderland in the League One playoff final and therefore, promotion to the Championship.

Unsurprisingly, though, given the high profile nature of that goal, Rangers aren’t the only club to have been alerted to Bauer’s availability.
The report claims Championship clubs Blackburn, Preston, Hull, Wigan, and QPR are all in the running.

Furthermore, the Gers’ SPL rivals, Hibernian, are also credited with an interest.

The 6ft 3″ centre-back has been with the Addicks since 2015 and at 26, should soon be entering his prime.
He made 39 appearances in all competitions across 2018/19 showing his durability. With six cautions and a solitary red card, his disciplinary record stands up to scrutiny, too.

It looks as though Steven Gerrard faces serious competition in the race for Bauer.
However, reinforcements at the back are non-negotiable in this window. With Joe Worrall bidding Rangers’ fans farewell before heading back to Nottingham Forest and Gareth McAuley out of contract, the club only has two senior centre-halves on the books.
