Rangers first-team coach Michael Beale has sent a supportive message to Cammy Palmer following his permanent transfer to Linfield.

Palmer had been on loan at SPFL League One club Clyde prior to the recent suspension of all leagues below the Championship, but the Gers announced on Wednesday that he has joined Linfield on an 18-month contract.

The 20-year-old midfielder captained the Rangers Reserves to the 2018/19 SPFL Reserve League title, before heading out on loan stints to Partick Thistle, Orange County SC and then Clyde.

He represented the first team in a friendly against HJK Helsinki at Ibrox in January 2019 but didn’t manage to make a competitive senior appearance.

The Northern Ireland youth international clearly made an impression on Gers coach Michael Beale, though, who sent him a supportive message on Twitter after the move was announced.

“Good luck Cammy – a top kid, I will be following your progress mate,” wrote Beale on Twitter.

Linfield are bidding to win their fourth NIFL Premiership title in five years and are currently sitting pretty at the top of the table, with a four-point lead over fellow Belfast club Crusaders.

Palmer will be hoping to go straight into manager David Healy’s plans, with the Blues’ next match coming at home to Dungannon Swifts on Saturday afternoon.

If he manages to break into the side quickly, he could come up against former Rangers Academy teammate Aidan Wilson when Linfield face Crusaders early next month.
