Rangers, Celtic linked international makes decision on future – journalist

Hapoel Tel Aviv and Israel left-back Doron Leidner is set to move to Greece and Olympiakos amid links to both Rangers and Celtic.

The 21-year-old full-back was linked to Ibrox earlier in the summer and the Gers were once again mentioned by Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas as a potential interested party.

Thomas also namedropped Old Firm rivals Celtic into the mix as he confirmed that three-times capped Doron Leidner was lining up a £1.7m move to Piraeus.

And the big Glasgow two weren’t the only ones either with Serie A pair Sassuolo and Bologna also mentioned by Lyall alongside Premier League Nottingham Forest.

The news won’t come as much of a surprise to Rangers fans given the club have already moved to sign a new left-back in the transfer window.

After the record-breaking £23m sale of Nigerian international Calvin Bassey to Ajax, Rangers have moved to shore up the left-back position by signing Ridvan Yilmaz this week.

Signing on a five-year deal worth up to £5m [Sky Sports], it’s considered something of a coup and Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is delighted to get his man.

“I am really pleased to have added Ridvan to our squad and I believe he will bring a lot of quality to the club,” said Gio [Rangers].

“I have been really impressed with his development in a really demanding, winning environment at Besiktas over the last few seasons.

“I am looking forward to welcoming him to training in the coming days and to seeing him in action for the first time.”

With Borna Barisic still on the books at Rangers and no potential suitors making a suitable bid for the player, there appeared no need to add Doron Leidner into the mix.

As the Israeli prepares to move to Olympiakos, Rangers attentions will be lasered in on Ridvan Yilmaz and what the 21-year-old can achieve in Glasgow.
