Rangers captain James Tavernier has asserted his commitment to the club amid reported interest from Newcastle United, as quoted by the Daily Record.
The 28-year-old played a key role as the Gers secured their first victory at Parkhead in nine years just before the winter break, and the Scottish Sun claims that Newcastle are set to ‘step up’ their interest in the right-back after their scouts were impressed by his performance.

Tavernier started his career with Newcastle in 2009 but was shipped out on loan on multiple occasions before eventually leaving for Wigan in 2014.
However, it seems he’s got no intention of heading back south of the border anytime soon.
“My contract is here and I’m fully committed to the team,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Record. “We’re halfway through the season, in a great position and my family are settled.”
“In football, it can sometimes be out of your hands, but I’m delighted to be here and want to continue.”

Verdict
Bears should be delighted by these comments from Tavernier, a player Rangers simply can’t afford to lose in this window.
While he did have a blip earlier in the season, with defensive lapses costing his side points away at Young Boys and Hearts, he’s still far and away the best right-back at the club.
Further to that, what he offers going forward is instrumental to the way the team plays.
His marauding runs and crossing from the right have resulted in 12 assists so far this season, and as the man with the armband, he’s always looking to drive his teammates on.
Therefore, it’s great for fans to hear that his head hasn’t been turned and that he’s focused on the second half of the campaign as the club hunts for silverware.
