Steven Gerrard has delivered a Rangers transfer update, as quoted by the Daily Record.
The Gers boss has opened up on his early contact with new Sporting Director, Ross Wilson, after the ex-Southampton staff member officially started his Ibrox role.

With the January window approaching, it seems the club is no longer targeting a big number of new arrivals.
After considerable investment in the squad over the last 18 months, it’s more about downsizing.
“Certain things have to remain private, like what’s been said between manager and sporting director,” said Gerrard, as quoted by the Daily Record. “But Ross has had a positive week. He’s been welcomed by everyone and is getting used to his new surroundings. We’ve had some interesting meetings and talks already.”
“In terms of his role in the next transfer window, the squad will be made smaller in January.
“And what doesn’t change at Rangers is that if there’s something worth exploring which will make us better, we’ll try to do it. But don’t expect a lot of bodies coming in – that just won’t be the case.”

Verdict
In the wake of rampant recruitment across the last three windows, this approach makes sense.
The club can’t continuously look to pump in money for six or seven new bodies every six months, and the squad already has depth in most key areas.
Of course, it’s good for the fans to hear that feelers will still be being extended and that if the right player become available, Wilson and co will swoop.
Yet, after an expensive summer, the mission is clearly to be as efficient as possible, with players like Eros Grezda being moved on, as well as fringe men like Greg Docherty or even Matt Polster.
