According to the Daily Record, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is an ‘admirer’ of Hibernian striker Kevin Nisbet, a player the Gers first tracked in 2019.

Rangers reportedly scouted Nisbet during the first half of the 2019/20 season when he was banging in goals for Dunfermline [Glasgow Times].

They ultimately decided against making a move, though, and he was snapped up by Hibs last summer on a four-year deal.

The Edinburgh club only paid a relatively minor undisclosed fee to land the forward but after he netted 18 goals during his first season at Easter Road and earned an international call-up ahead of the Euros, the Hibees slapped a significant price tag on their asset.

The Daily Mail reported on Friday that Hibs are holding out for £4m amid interest from Celtic, Birmingham City, Swansea City, Brentford, Nottingham Forest and FC Krasnodar.

On Sunday, the Daily Record dropped Rangers into the conversation by claiming that Gerrard is an ‘admirer’ of the 24-year-old.

However, it’s stated that he’s unlikely to swoop unless one of his current group of forwards is sold.

Plenty of Bears have praised Nisbet on social media and therefore will be pleased to the see the Gers linked with him again, while even Ibrox legend Ally McCoist is a big fan, labelling him ‘excellent from start to finish’ in a Rangers vs Hibs clash last season [The Edinburgh Reporter].

However, it does seem as though there are a lot of other sides ahead of the Light Blues in the race and given that interest seems to depend on sales of current players, it’s unlikely the club could get to the negotiating table before it’s too late.

Nisbet is a mobile and intelligent young striker with a real eye for goal but perhaps the best chance for Rangers to sign him has already come and gone.

However, the Gers could be set to announce the signing of a former Premier League player this week.
