Serie A giants Atalanta and Roma are keeping tabs on Ross McCausland’s situation with Rangers reportedly in danger of losing the Scottish Premiership starlet for just £400,000 in the January transfer window.
Not that they needed it, of course, but the news emerging around Ross McCausland’s future is a warning to Rangers about the dangers of letting an unwelcome situation drag on any longer.
According to the Daily Record, Brentford are already circling like vultures, ready to pluck the 20-year-old from Philippe Clement’s clutches. McCausland’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign and, try as they might, Rangers are yet to agree an extension.
And the uncertainty surrounding one of the club’s most exciting young attackers in many a year has not gone unnoticed on the continent either. Tuttomercatoweb report that Atalanta and Roma are ‘monitoring’ McCausland. They will continue to do so ahead of the winter window.

Jose Mourinho’s Serie A giants eye Rangers raid
The Northern Ireland international could be snapped up for as little as £400,000 too, should he sign a pre-contract with either La Dea or Jose Mourinho’s Giallorrosi.
Now, Mourinho might not have the best track record when it comes to blooding youth. But you cannot say the same of Gian Piero Gasperini at Atalanta. Amad Diallo, Rasmus Hojlund, Cristian Romero, Franck Kessie and Roma’s own Gianluca Mancini all made big-money moves away from Bergamo after catching the eye under the one-time Inter Milan boss.
Rangers must extend Ross McCausland contract
“I’m pleased he has made the breakthrough,” Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill tells the Daily Record of McCausland, so impressive in his recent Rangers appearances.
“He’s an exciting young player. He just has to continue in the vein of form that he’s in. Certainly a change in manager seems to have helped him and he’s making the most of it. It’s up to him now, really. Can he stay in the team at Rangers?
“Once you have that first-team experience you gather belief in yourself. He’s not a boy who is short in confidence anyhow, so it’s good to have him in. He’s a confident lad who can add something.”
