Rangers have officially announced the departure of Polish youth international right-back Mateusz Zukowski on a loan with option-to-buy deal to Lech Poznan.

Reports broke earlier in the week regarding the reported interest in the player’s home country and now Rangers have moved to confirm the deal.

Taking to the club’s official website, Rangers confirmed the deal and wished Mateusz all the best in Poland.

“Rangers can today announce Mateusz Zukowski has joined Lech Poznan on-loan until the end of the season,” reads a club statement.

“The 20 year-old right-back joined Gers in the winter transfer window and featured in the Scottish Cup win at Annan in February.

“Mateusz returns to Poland with the best wishes of everyone at Rangers.”

The player himself has also sent a message on social media following the transfer as he looks forward to a year with Lech Poznan.

Matuesz Zukowski joins Lech Poznan from Rangers

Rangers had signed Mateusz Zukowski on a four-and-a-half year deal in January following the departure of Nathan Patterson to Everton but the former Lechia Gdansk star struggled to have any meaningful impact on the first team.

Playing only once for Rangers, in the 3-0 Scottish Cup win away to Annan Athletic, Zukowski found chances at a premium and was eventually usurped in the Rangers squad.

Talented academy right-back Adam Devine was given the nod in clashes with Dundee United and Hearts later in the season and is now the club’s second choice right-back.

Captain James Tavernier is clearly going to play the majority of games but according to the likes of Jordan Campbell at the Athletic the Zukowski move is also about freeing up a first-team pathway for the Rangers youngster.

Adam Devine is also reportedly on the verge of agreeing a new deal with Rangers with the likes of Football Insider claiming the contract has already been signed.

Meanwhile, a controversial Rangers Champions League move could recoup up to £9m for the club.
