Rangers defender Borna Barisic seemingly won’t be joining Nottingham Forest as they close in on a new left back.
Gers fans were left surprised when Barisic’s name was connected to Forest.
The Scottish Sun reported earlier in July that Forest were lining up a bid to sign Barisic.
Forest want to sign another left back this summer with Renan Lodi’s loan spell from Atletico Madrid now over.
Barisic was thought to be on their radar as chief football officer Ross Wilson worked with the Croatian at Rangers.
There has been no progress on that move though and Forest now appear to be going in another direction.
Nottingham Forest close in on new left back
Fabrizio Romano reports that Forest are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Monaco left back Ismail Jakobs.
Romano suggests that Jakobs is keen on the move and negotiations are advancing well, leaving Forest edging towards a deal.
The Senegal international appears to be Forest’s top choice at left back but they do have another target in mind.
Foot Mercato claim that Forest are also chasing Rennes left back Adrien Truffert as they again look to the French market.
Both Jakobs and Truffert are younger options than Barisic and that appears to be the direction in which Forest want to go.
That means Barisic looks likely to stay at Rangers with a Premier League switch now fading away.

Barisic faces intriguing season at Rangers
Barisic has been a mainstay for Rangers over the last five years, racking up more than 200 appearances for the club.
The 30-year-old has just one year left on his contract and it’s unclear whether another deal will be in the offing.
Rangers won’t want to commit too many money on players heading into their 30’s and Barisic would be in that category.
The Gers also have another left back in the mix with Ridvan Yilmaz looking to really kick-start his Rangers career.
Barisic hasn’t impressed all that much in recent displays and it wouldn’t be a shock if Yilmaz overtakes him this season.
From alleged Premier League interest to an uncertain Rangers future, Barisic is in a strange position heading into the new season.
