Speaking on the Record Rangers Podcast, Scott McDermott has tipped Rangers to successfully lure Ryan Kent back to Ibrox this summer.
The Liverpool loanee played the final game of his season-long Gers loan on Sunday.
However, Steven Gerrard has repeatedly stated his desire to keep the winger at the club. Most recently, he confirmed Rangers have made Liverpool an offer [Liverpool Echo].
It’s not yet known whether that offer is for a permanent transfer or a second loan spell.
McDermott, the Sunday Mail’s Chief Football Writer, believes Rangers have a chance of pulling off the latter.
“That would be a major coup if they could pull it off,” he said on a potential Kent return, on the Record Rangers Podcast.

“I’ve got a feeling that they’ll get Kent back for another loan deal. I think we all except that they won’t be able to afford him, I think Steven Gerrard knows that as well.
“Liverpool could probably sell Kent to a club in the Championship right now for £8-10 million. But, again, the relationship Gerrard’s got with Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool. I think he’ll go back and say ‘listen, you could get £10m for him now, but give us him for another year and you’ll get £15m-20m for him next season.”
Verdict
Plenty of Rangers fans will be hoping McDermott is right about this.
There’s no doubt it would be a coup to get Kent back at Ibrox, after some of the performances he’s put in this season.
Given that he’s said to be contracted to Liverpool until 2022 [This Is Anfield], another loan is certainly plausible. As is suggested above, Kent’s contract situation means that even after another season away, the Reds would still be in a position to demand a substantial transfer fee, if he were to then move elsewhere the following summer.
