Scott McDermott has backed Rangers’ reported swoop for Jake Hastie, on the Record Rangers Podcast.
The Express reports that a deal is set to be announced at some stage this week, with the Gers potentially forking out around £350k in compensation money.

The deal would see the 20-year-old winger move to Ibrox when his current Motherwell contract expires.
“I think for that kind of money, it has to be,” said Sunday Mail chief football writer, McDermott, on the Record Rangers Podcast.
“Hastie has shown since he broke into the Motherwell team what a talent he is. Since he’s went into that Motherwell team, he’s looked well equipped. You’ve seen that with the goals and performances.”
“For that kind of money, for Rangers to be able to go in and get a boy of that age, of that potential, in an area where I think Rangers need to strengthen, it ticks a lot of boxes. It looks like a good investment for the future.”

Verdict
McDermott comments echo those of Lee McCulloch, who also backed the reported move [Evening Times].
There’s no doubt Hastie has impressed many with his showings so far in a Motherwell shirt.
Clearly, performing at Ibrox week in, week out, is a different proposition. However, you have to think that in a Rangers team playing on the front foot, he’s going to be given even more license to create and score goals.
His pace will certainly bolster the manger’s options out wide. Furthermore, with his physicality and ability to cut inside to shoot, he brings qualities not currently at the manager’s disposal.
