Premier League club 'set Champions League sights' on Rangers star

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is eyeing a Rangers reunion with Ibrox winger Ryan Kent as his side finds a little form in the Premier League.

The legendary former Liverpool and England captain brought Kent to Ibrox from Liverpool and according to The Sunday Mirror (02/10, p71) could look to bring the winger to Villa Park.

That report claims that both Villa and long-term Kent suitors Leeds United will watch the wide man closely when he competes in the upcoming Champions League double-header with his old side.

This comes with Aston Villa unbeaten in three in the English top flight, the club now up to 14th in the table following a 0-0 draw away to Leeds United.

Rangers fans know the quality the winger brings but there are some nerves regarding the 25-year-old with things certainly uncertain as it stands.

Aston Villa linked with Rangers winger Ryan Kent

There is much speculation surrounding the future of Ryan Kent as he enters the final year of his Rangers contract with Aston Villa and Leeds United the most prominent Premier League sides mentioned.

This also means that should the right bid land in January, Rangers may well be tempted to take it rather than lose the winger for nothing.

According to the likes of Football Insider, the winger has also rejected Rangers’ bumper latest offer a new contract and has his eye set on following Joe Aribo to the English top-flight.

However, with Kent free to discuss terms with other clubs come January, Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson claims the Ibrox side are still very much in discussions over a new deal.

Ryan Kent joins Alfredo Morelos in being two influential Rangers first-teamers who could leave for nothing come the end of the season.

“With Alfredo and Ryan, those discussions are happening,” said Robertson [Rangers Review].

“The guys have got until the end of May in their existing contracts. We will try to engage with players when we want them to extend. Some will want to take time because it’s a big decision for them.”

As the Ryan Kent conversation continues, other more shock jock reporters such as Gabby Agbonlahor have been providing the tabloids with headlines with their latest comments.

Agbonlahor claimed that if Kent doesn’t “buck up his ideas” a move to the Championship is more likely than the Premier League [Football Insider].

Aston Villa-linked Ryan Kent broke a recent run of baron goalscoring form by scoring in the 4-0 win over Hearts, with the winger also assisting Rangers’ opener with a cross for Antonio Colak.
