An unnamed Premier League club are reportedly interested in Rangers star Joe Aribo, who surprisingly missed Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Arsenal.

Aribo has really kicked on with his career since joining the Gers from Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2019.

The 24-year-old now has a Premiership winners medal to his name, is a full Nigeria international and is only going to get better.

Steven Gerrard is a big fan, but it seems he’s not the only high-profile manager to recognise the versatile operator’s considerable ability and potential.

That’s as Allnigeriasoccer.com reports that an unnamed English top-flight side have ‘concrete interest’ in Aribo.

It’s claimed that the London-born player has always dreamed of playing in the Premier League and could soon realise his ambition.

Having featured in the Gers’ first two pre-season fixtures against Partick Thistle and Tranmere Rovers, Aribo was surprisingly absent from the matchday squad that took on Arsenal at Ibrox at the weekend.

However, the same report asserts that this was nothing to do with the alleged transfer interest, but due to a knock he picked up in training ahead of the match.

Aribo was an important player for Rangers last season, scoring eight goals and notching seven assists, and his numbers would undoubtedly have been better had he not spent a period out injured early on in the campaign.

There hasn’t been a great deal of transfer speculation around him until now, but this report may concern some Bears.

Silky and athletic, he’s capable of doing an excellent job for Gerrard either in midfield or in a more advanced role and therefore, he’s a brilliant asset to have.

It would surely take a very hefty bid to tempt the Gers to sell and for the player himself, even if he does dream of playing in the Premier League one day, is it such a priority that he would potentially give up the chance to play in the Champions League?

Another Rangers star who missed the Arsenal friendly has reportedly told close friends that he wants to leave Ibrox.
