Plymouth boss says Rangers prospect Rudden excited by loan move

Plymouth Argyle boss Ryan Lowe has revealed details on his swoop for Zak Rudden, as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times.

The 19-year-old striker secured a six-month loan move to the EFL League Two outfit late last week.

We are delighted to welcome Zak Rudden (@zakorudden) to Home Park on a six-month loan deal from @RangersFC.

It came just a fortnight after Steven Gerrard claimed that the striker was part of his first-team plans [RangersTV].

Yet, with the Gers boss almost always preferring to play one up top, it seems he’s content with two senior strikers in Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe.

Lowe, on the other hand, was delighted to acquire Rudden. Even if, it’s only until January.

Plymouth boss says Rangers teenager excited by move

“We are pleased with him,” said Argyle’s manager, as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times. “We are thankful to Rangers and Stevie for letting us have him.”

“He could have went to a few other clubs. I spent half an hour with him in the hotel before the game and an hour after the [Salford] game.

“He was excited. It was a full house – packed to the rafters under the lights – and he said ‘I want a bit of it’. So we sent him home to get all his stuff and brought him straight back, and he’s here.”

Verdict

It’s interesting to hear that Rudden had the choice of multiple other clubs, but opted for Lowe’s Plymouth.

Of course, Lowe’s friendship with Steven Gerrard and the advice of some of Rudden’s Gers teammates may have helped Argyle’s cause. Both Jamie Barjonas and Jordan Rossiter spent time on loan under Lowe at Bury last season.

Choosing a switch south of the border will also give the teenage forward a chance to experience a new league and living away from home.

He was hugely impressive for an ailing Falkirk side in the Scottish Championship last season. But, with Plymouth seeking promotion to the third tier, this move will bring different challenges.

Having got his debut out of the way on Saturday, Rudden will hope to get off the mark in terms of goals at home to Reading tomorrow night in the League Cup.
