There is “nothing true” about rumours linking Rangers with a move for Groningen attacker Kevin van Veen.
That’s according to the Dutch club’s Sporting Director, who has been speaking to a leading Dutch journalist as talk of an Ibrox switch for the forward spreads online.
Stefan Bleeker – who works with Dutch outlet RTV Noord – took to X to quote FC Groningen’s sporting director Wouter Gudde.
According to Gudde, there is “nothing true and nothing heard” surrounding potential Rangers interest in Kevin van Veen.
“Nothing true” about Kevin van Veen rumours
The Rangers links to Kevin van Veen come amid much speculation surrounding the former Motherwell striker’s future in the Netherlands.
Having moved to FC Groningen in the summer, the 32-year-old forward is at odds with the hierarchy of the club and could be moved on this winter.
The striker previously claimed that Rangers were interested in his services before the switch to the Netherlands, but turned down a move due to his age.
Things intensified this week when Rangers were named as an interested party in a Dutch report, which had appeared to get details of a British report lost in translation.
An Ibrox move for Kevin van Veen always looked unlikely and now it appears potential Rangers interest has been rubbished by the hierarchy of the club.
Rangers bolster striker position
Rangers have however wasted no time in strengthening the squad this winter with the club already announcing Philippe Clement’s first signing.
Wolves forward Fabio Silva, 21, has joined the club on loan until the end of the season in a major attacking addition which will bolster the forward options in the Rangers squad.
Driven by manager Philippe Clement and new Director of Recruitment Nils Koppen – who signed the player at PSV last season – the move for the £35m striker is considered a coup at Ibrox.
Rangers are currently going through a series of injury problems in the squad, with strikers Danilo and Kemar Roofe unlikely to contribute much more this season.

It means more firepower is the order of the day in Glasgow with Fabio Silva potentially one of two forwards we’d expect to see come into the club.
With Kevin van Veen now being confirmed as a non-starter as things stand, perhaps Rangers might turn their attentions closer to home.
